I had the pleasure of interviewing Angela Meyer,
Mo asked Angela:
“f you could record a video about business development advice and growth and send it back to your younger self, what would it say?”
Angela responded:
"So I think the first thing that is important is I don’t care what business you are in. Don’t be afraid to try, and don’t be afraid fail. You need to learn how to fail before you can succeed. It’s really important that you understand that in any career, wherever you are, you are constantly selling yourself. You could be a doctor, you are still selling yourself. You could be selling gasoline at the gas station, you’re still selling that gas. So you have to be able to get out there and extend yourself. You have to try. So that’s the first thing I would tell myself if I was going it again.”
“The second thing is, hone your communication skills. It’s so important. People don’t want a monotone person. You need to have energy. You need to have fire. You need to be excited, and you need to love what you are doing. You know, I was an engineer by training. I liked engineering. I didn’t love engineering, but I loved doing business development. It gives me the opportunity to do the things that I really love to do, which is be with people. So if I was going to tell myself, learn to fail, develop your communication skills, and the other thing is build your network. You know when I was 24, we didn’t have all the tools that we have now. We didn’t have LinkedIn and text messaging and all the other things that are there. Keep in touch with people. Keep networking with people. Put yourself out there because you never know where the next job is going to come from. You just don’t.”

No matter what business you’re in, it’s important to not be afraid to try and not be afraid to fail. You need to fail before you can succeed. You’re always selling yourself or your product, so you have to be willing to extend yourself and grow.
